CHINA: A 5·7 km extension of Hangzhou metro’s Line 1 opened on November 24, exactly three years since the inauguration of the city’s first metro line.

The new section runs from the former eastern terminus of Wenze Road to Xiasha District with two intermediate stations. It underwent a period of trial operation from July to October.

Line 1 now has a total length of 54 route-km and 34 stations. It is operated by the Hangzhou MTR joint venture of Hangzhou Metro (51%) and MTR Corp (49%) under a 25-year PPP contract.
