SPAIN: Infrastructure manager ADIF has awarded a consortium of Thales and Siemens Rail Automation a €54m contract to supply signalling and train control systems for the 50 km La Robla – Pola de Lena line under construction between León and Oriedo, which includes the 25 km Pajares base tunnel.

The contract covers the supply of train protection, centralised traffic control, fixed-line telecoms and video monitoring systems. The suppliers will also maintain the systems for one year, with the possibility of a one-year extension.

Installation of train protection systems will take place in two phases. The first phase will be commissioning with the ASFA train protection system supplied by Siemens, and the second will see the installation of ETCS Level 2 equipment from Thales.
