NETHERLANDS: ProRail has awarded Strukton a contract to deploy ERTMS on the Leeuwarden – Harlingen Haven line as part of the ERTMS Northern Lines project and as a national testbed for the latest version of ETCS.
The main works are to begin in 2026. The contract announced in July includes cables, axle counters and balises. After commissioning, the legacy ATB safety system will be removed.

Once the testing is successfully completed, BAM Infra Nederland will install ERTMS between Leeuwarden and Stavoren under a separate contract.
This will be followed by a roll-out on the rest of the Northern Lines network of six routes plus Groningen and Leeuwarden stations, in a project being run jointly by ProRail, Arriva, the provinces of Friesland and Groningen and the ERTMS Programme Directorate.
Last year BAM Infra Nederland and Strukton were awarded a contract to deploy ERTMS between Kijfhoek near Rotterdam and the Belgian border, with work to start at the end of 2025 and continue until 2028.
