EUROPE: Work is underway to reopen the 7·4 km line between Đurmanec in Croatia and Sveti Rok ob Sotli in Slovenia. The line closed in 1994 owing to the poor condition of the infrastructure and the problems of managing the border crossing following independence.

The scope of the €6·6m project includes reconstructing four bridges and the Lupinjak tunnel. The main contractor is Croatian company Pružne Građevine.

National passenger operators HŽ PP and SŽ expect to revive passenger services on the route in December.
