SLOVAKIA: Infrastructure manager ŽSR has awarded a consortium of Eltra and TSS Grade a contract to electrify a 20·6 km section of the Košice–Zvolen main line between Haniska pri Košiciach and Moldava nad Bodvou.

The route will be energised at 3 kV DC but with provisdion for future conversion to 25 kV 50 Hz. The project will include track renewals, resignalling and station refubishment. The maximum speed will be increased to 100 km/h, reducing journey times by 11 min.

The €58·8m EU co-funded contract was awarded on June 30, and completion is due in 28 months.
