UK: Infrastructure manager Network Rail has appointed Mott MacDonald to support the implementation of Hitachi’s Tranista traffic management system on the Thameslink route through London.

The consultancy is to advise Network Rail on the necessary changes to operational roles, processes and decision making. It will also look at the integration of Tranista within the existing operational centres, and its impact on operator workload and staff accommodation, including physical desk design.

‘Traffic management is a paradigm shift in the way a railway is operated, so we will need to develop a whole new approach to assessing workload’, said Robert Gray, Mott MacDonald's project director for the Thameslink Central Engineering framework, on September 26.
