Messe Berlin has been hosting InnoTrans in the German capital since 1996.

ASIA: Trade fair organiser Messe Berlin has launched InnoTrans Asia, an offshoot of the Berlin event that will run for the first time in 2027.

InnoTrans Asia will take place on September 7-9 2027 at the Singapore Expo site, one of the largest events hubs in southeast Asia. The launch of the Asian edition of the world’s largest transport technology show was confirmed on June 30 following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Singapore Tourism Board.

Complementing the biennial InnoTrans Berlin, InnoTrans Asia will take place in the alternate year and focus on the Asia-Pacific market, Messe Berlin said. The event will cover Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Public Transport, Interiors and Tunnel Construction.

‘InnoTrans Asia is an important addition to the world’s leading trade fair in Berlin and enriches our international event portfolio’, said Dirk Hoffmann, Chief Operating Officer at Messe Berlin. ‘While InnoTrans Berlin will remain the centrepiece of the industry, we intend to establish InnoTrans Asia as a link between emerging markets and global innovations. Messe Berlin’s decision to establish InnoTrans Asia in Singapore capitalises on the region’s substantial investments in rail transport infrastructure.’

‘Asia is investing heavily in expanding its rail transport infrastructure for both passengers and freight transport’, added Kai Mangelberger, Senior Vice- President of Mobility at Messe Berlin. ‘The demand for modern rail transport technology, automation and sustainable solutions is increasing in China, India and many other countries in southeast Asia. With InnoTrans Asia, we are creating a central platform for the Asian market — right here in Singapore.’

The event was launched with an accompanying live stream, where Arup’s Managing Director for Asia TC Chew introduced a panel discussion featuring leaders from the metro and urban mobility markets in Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. ‘Asian countries will not just be following trends in the global economy, they will be leading them and shaping the future of the transport sector’, Chew told the audience.

The event is being co-ordinated through Messe Berlin Singapore Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the event company which already manages the tourism trade fair ITB Asia and Asia Fruit Logistica.
