Seattle LRV

USA: Sound Transit has appointed Jacobs to provide design and design validation services for the West Seattle Link Extension project.

The 6·6 km light rail extension from a junction south of the existing SODO stop will include a high 520 m long cable-stayed bridge spanning the Duwamish River and a 900 m tunnel. There will be stops at SODO, Delridge, Avalon and Alaska Junction.

The start of major construction is planned for 2027, with opening envisaged for 2032.

Reducing travel times

The project aims to reduce travel times by up to 50% by providing an alternative to the West Seattle road bridge during periods of peak demand, and to support the development of retail opportunities and affordable housing near stations.

‘The West Seattle Link Extension will serve as a gateway to the community, with streetscapes and public spaces that resonate with residents, while reducing travel times and improving access to jobs, education and services in the Seattle area’, said Jacobs Executive Vice-President Ron Williams on July 17.
