UK: Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems has completed a ‘significant’ interim door overhaul for the c2c Class 357 Electrostar EMU fleet.

‘This project was a significant challenge, both in scale and complexity, but through the commitment of our on-site team and the strong collaboration with Alstom we achieved an excellent outcome’, said Richard Campbell, Services Project Manager at Knorr-Bremse, on October 7.

The project covered 1 184 passenger doors on 74 four-car EMUs built in Derby between 1999 and 2002 and currently leased from Angel Trains and Porterbrook.

The work was undertaken by a team of five technicians at Alstom’s East Ham depot using components from Knorr-Bremse’s IFE subsidiary. It included a complete overhaul of worn components and a ‘crucial’ cam modification to bring all the doors up to the latest Electrostar standard.

Knorr-Bremse said that ‘despite initial engineering challenges encountered’, it streamlined its processes to achieve the delivery of one train per week.
