River Line

USA: The operation and maintenance of the 55 km River Line inter-urban diesel light rail service linking Trenton with Camden in New Jersey is to transfer from Alstom to state transport agency NJ Transit by the end of the year.

The original operating contract was awarded to Bombardier Transportation for the opening of the line in 2004, and the current contract which started in 2015 was to have run to 2030 with an option for a further five years.

In a joint statement on September 3, Alstom and NJ Transit said the ‘mutually agreed decision’ to transfer responsibility followed ‘several years of working closely together to assess the conditions of the River Line’, and ‘reflects the evolving investment needs of the service, which have grown beyond the current scope of Alstom’s contract’.
