GEORGIA: Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has announced a tender for the design of a 7·5 km tramway in the capital, and plans are being developed for a third metro line.
The previous tramway in Tbilisi closed in 2006. The proposed double-track line would connect the developing Didi Digomi residential area to Didube metro station, with 11 stops.
Plans have also been announced for a third metro line, running 8·5 km from Didube to Rustaveli via the Saburtalo and Vake districts. The project is scheduled to start in 2026 and take seven years to complete. Up to US$40m would be allocated for the work in the first year, and US$70m per year in 2027 and 2028.
