CHINA: Hong Kong’s government has authorised MTR Corp to go ahead with the procurement of detailed planning and design consultancy services for the Northern Link project.

The project has two phases. The first covers the completion of Kwu Tung station on the Lok Ma Chau branch of East Rail. The second is the construction of a long-planned 10·7 km link from Kwu Tung to Kam Sheung Road on West Rail via three intermediate stations at Au Tau, Ngau Tam Mei and San Tin. This would create a loop in the Northwest New Territories.

‘The newly-added Kwu Tung Station will be located in the proposed Kwu Tung Town Centre’, explained MTR Corp Chief Executive Officer. ‘It will support the overall development and enhance the connectivity of the area. Moreover, residents from the New Territories North will enjoy the transport convenience through the railway network linking up the east and west as the project continues to develop.’
