BRAZIL: Alstom has delivered the first of 22 six-car trainsets it is supplying for São Paulo Metro Line 6 (Orange).

It arrived at the Pátio Morro Grande depot in the north of the city on July 10, where a ceremony marking the delivery was attended by São Paulo State Governor Tarcísio de Freitas.

The train was manufactured at Alstom’s Taubaté site in São Paulo state. It is equipped for unattended automatic operation at up to 90 km/h.

The stainless steel bodied trainset have a design life of more than 40 years. It features a lightweight design for energy efficiency, and it has a capacity of 2 044 passengers.

‘We came to receive the first train of Line 6-Orange and monitor the progress of the work: we have more than 10 km of line completed and some stations already with 80% execution. The idea is that we start the first tests here at Pátio Morro Grande in the second half of this year. The works are going well and maintain excellent progress’, Freitas said.

The 15·3 km Line 6 will link Brasilândia in the north to São Joaquim on metro Line 1 in the city centre. It is being developed under a PPP model with Linha Universidade acting as construction and operating concessionaire.

The first section between Brasilândia and Perdizes is planned to be completed in the second half of 2026, with the second section between Perdizes and São Joaquim is scheduled for completion in 2027. It will serve seven universities in this corridor, and bring the approximately 1 h 30 min journey time by bus today down to 23 min. Line 6 is expected to be used by more than 630 000 passengers per day.
