MEXICO: A consortium of Promotora y Desarrolladora Mexicana, its subsidiary Desarollo de Terracerias and Spanish firm Proacon has been selected to build an extension of Mexico City metro Line 12. The 1·7bn peso bid beat 10 others, although it was not the lowest priced.

Line 12 is to be extended by 3·9 km from its western terminus at Mixcoac to Observatorio, where an interchange will be provided with metro Line 1. The extension will include two new stations and is expected to be completed by January 2017.

Line 12 has been running a partial service since March 2014 owing to track corrugation problems. Repair work is due to be completed by November.
