IRAN: Islamic Republic of Iran Railways has awarded Anglo Belgian Corp a contract to repower two of its Class AD43C locomotives as prototypes for a planned repowering programme.

The 100-strong fleet of six-axle locomotives entered service from 2002. The first 20 built by Alstom have Ruston 16RK215 engines, while the 80 assembled by Wagon Pars are fitted with similar power units manufactured locally by Desa under a technology transfer agreement. However, the locos have suffered from the harsh operating conditions in the hot and dusty environment and around two-thirds of the class are reported to be out of service.

The scope of the repowering project includes the supply of ABC 12DZC engines, integration into the locomotives, including the fitting of improved air filtration systems, and subsequent commissioning.
