PANAMA: Metro de Panamá has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hitachi, Ansaldo STS and Mitsubishi Corp for the supply of vehicles and railway systems for Panamá City metro Line 3, the consortium announced on August 30.

Hitachi will supply 28 six-car monorail trainsets, with Ansaldo STS to supply signalling, telecoms and power supplies. Mitsubishi Corp will be in charge of commercial affairs.

The 26·7 km route serving 14 stations would run from Albrook station on metro Line 1 across the Panama Canal to Ciudad del Futuro. The second phase would extends the line west from Ciudad del Futuro to La Chorrera.

Japan International Co-operation Agency is providing a 20-year soft loan of US$2·6bn under an agreement signed in 2016.
