FRANCE: Ile-de-France transport authority STIF and Paris transport operator RATP have awarded Alstom a firm order to supply additional MP05 metro trainsets in 2014-15. The six-car rubber-tyred trains are required for a 5·8 km northern extension of the automated Line 14 from Saint-Lazare to Mairie de Saint-Ouen which is scheduled to open in 2017.

The €127m order for 14 trainsets announced on November 14 is being funded by STIF. A €474m contract for an initial build of 29 trains was signed in October 2005, an €50m option for four more was taken up in May 2009, and earlier this year a further 10 were ordered for €140m.

Part of Alstom's Metropolis family, the MP05 trainsets offer end-to-end wide gangways and three large doorways per car side to speed passenger flows and provide easy access for passengers with reduced mobility.

The trains are designed and manufactured at Alstom's Valenciennes plant, with traction equipment from Tarbes, motors from Ornans, bogies from Le Creusot and IT and passenger information systems from Villeurbanne.
