RUSSIA: Moskva Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has signed an agreement with Transmashholding for the supply of 704 cars designated Moskva-2026 for the Russian capital.
The deal also includes servicing and maintenance of the 704 cars by TMH under a life-cycle contract running for 30 years.
Signed at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 19, the manufacturer presented a model of the new metro design. It is based on the Moskva-2024 fleet with minor updates. These include a new headlight design, with a feature to automatically decrease light intensity when entering a station. The colour of the cab interior will also be updated, and transparent monitors are to be built into side windows.

The metro cars are to be supplied in 2026-27 and are scheduled to be deployed on the Zamoskvoretskaya and Troitskaya lines.
An agreement was also signed covering strategic co-operation between the two parties. This envisages the supply of further metro cars for the Russian capital for the period up to 2030.
‘In recent years, Moskva Metro has been a leader in Europe in terms of its rolling stock renewal rate. This is largely the result of mutually beneficial cooperation between the city authorities and Transmashholding’, Sobyanin’s office said in a statement. ‘Since 2010, the share of modern cars in Moskva’s metro fleet has increased almost sixfold, from about 13% to more than 77%. Last year, more comfortable trains of the new Moskva-2024 series, developed taking into account the wishes of passengers and drivers, entered service on the Zamoskvoretskaya and Troitskaya lines. A total of 288 cars were purchased in 2024, and another 272 are planned to be purchased later in 2025.’
