AS PART of its Service Standard Initiative to ensure improved amenities and consistent quality of service for long-distance passengers, Amtrak has introduced a Coach Dinner Service for passengers who cannot be accommodated in the dining car. Coach class passengers can purchase pre-prepared fixed-price meals, which can be eaten in the lounge car or delivered by a coach attendant for at-seat consumption. Now available on the Empire Builder, Lake Shore Limited, and California Zephyr, they will be extended to all services by the end of next year.

Other amenities under consideration are magazine racks in all long-distance coaches; complimentary toiletry kits, blankets and pillows; flowers in all restrooms; and complimentary beverage and afternoon snacks for all sleeping-car passengers.
