INTERNATIONAL: ‘Building Back Greener’ will be the overarching theme of Railway Gazette Group’s second Rail Broadcast Week, which takes place on September 13-16 2021.

Supported by Siemens Mobility and other rail sector partners, the four-day programme of interactive online panel discussions and presentations will bring together a range of industry-leading speakers from around the world, offering an unparalleled insight into the global rail and metro sector’s recovery from the ravages of Covid-19, and the priorities for future development.

The live discussions and business-critical insights will be streamed using our well-established Wavecast interactive technology, enabling registered viewers to pose questions to the panellists in real time and shape the discussion as it happens. All of the sessions will be free to view live following registration, while recordings will be available ‘on demand’ within 24 h.

Global thought leadership

As with our inaugural event in September 2020, Rail Broadcast Week 2021 will offers an unrivalled opportunity to explore the opportunities and challenges facing the global railway sector, anchored by a series of keynote panel discussions, moderated by Railway Gazette Group’s authoritative and independent editorial team.

Rail Broadcast Week will also feature a series of presentations hosted by our commercial partners. These will typically focus on a specific technological or operational challenge, outlining options for future efficiency gains and operational enhancements.

Daily themes

Each day of Rail Broadcast Week will address a key aspect of the overall theme.

  • Monday September 13 will start by examining Railway Policy, as decision-makers around the world grapple with the impact of Covid-19 and look to position rail as part of a sustainable transport mix. As the world addresses the imperatives of climate change, what must be done to turn the dream of modal shift into a reality?
  • Tuesday September 14 will address Traction, with presentations looking at cost-effective electrification and alternative technologies such as battery and hydrogen, as well as the optimisation of fleet deployment.
  • Wednesday September 15 is all about Digital, as we drill down into the opportunities for harnessing data and analytics to optimise all aspects of the rail business.
  • Thursday September 16 will focus on Innovation, beginning with a presentation from Shift2Rail joint undertaking, looking at progress on a range of mission-critical research initiatives. Other sessions will look at the ‘next generation railway’ and review the ERTMS Game Changes that are poised to revolutionise train operations.

A ’must watch’ for industry professionals

‘Our first Rail Broadcast Week was a great success, attracting thousands of viewers from around the world, and we are sure that the second will be equally popular’, commented Nick Kingsley, Managing Editor of Railway Gazette International.

‘Despite the uncertainties that have dogged the global rail sector over the past 18 months, it is clear that railways have a bright future delivering sustainable travel, skilled jobs and balanced economic development. Our second Rail Broadcast Week provides a valuable opportunity to explore this potential in detail, and we believe that it will be another “must-watch” for rail professionals globally.’
