Taipei Smart Card Corp and Swiss watchmaker Swatch have begun selling wristwatches containing an embedded smart chip, allowing passengers to use the timepieces to pay for metro and bus fares in the Taiwanese capital. TSCC said 11000 of the NT$1600 watches would be on sale by the start of this month. Passengers will not be able to top up the value of the smart card using the standard ticket machines, instead needing to visit local convenience shops or station ticket offices. TSCC is now planning to embed smart ticketing chips in mobile telephones, necklaces and earrings.
