Next month will see a bottleneck eliminated in München. When the timetable changes on December 14, regional passenger and freight trains heading for Mühldorf will run on separate tracks thanks to construction of a 4·7 km bypass at Berg am Laim. Existing tracks through Berg am Laim station will then be used exclusively by S-Bahn trains on routes S5 and S6.

Another project intended to improve flows east of München is the Truderinger chord, which will provide a direct link between the lines from München to Mühldorf and Rosenheim. This will permit freight trains routed over the Brenner pass to run directly in and out of München-Riem intermodal terminal, avoiding reversal in München-Ost station. The project will be completed in 2006.
