ELECTRO-MOTIVE Diesel Inc announced on August 27 that it had acquired ITS Rail Services three days before.
ITS supplies technical services, training and publications for the rail industry worldwide, and as part of EMD will concentrate on providing training, consultancy and supporting overseas locomotive remanufacturing projects.
'ITS's experience in managing locomotive life extensions, combined with their training expertise, will be very helpful to instructing customers how to best operate, maintain and improve upon their EMD locomotives', said Albert Enste, EMD's Vice-President and General Manager of International Sales & Service. 'EMD will increase its training centres worldwide based on the proven training concepts of ITS.'
- Last month negotiations were underway between EMD and Transnet for the supply of 212 diesel locomotives as part of a US$10·8bn investment programme to revitalise the South African railway's general freight business. Transnet officials said the initial tranche of locos would be assigned to the Sishen — Saldanha iron ore line.
