A symbolic start was made on September 18 to kick off the project that will see the Stuttgart - München main line relocated underground in Neu-Ulm. Known as Neu-Ulm 21, the scheme will see a new station built and all four tracks of the main line relocated below ground over a distance of 3·6 km. This will release 180000m2 of land for development in the city centre.
