Minsk Railway Carriage Repair Works has formed a new production unit with the capacity to assemble up to 60 coaches a year. The plant is currently completing work on its first accessible coach with an electric wheelchair lift for Belarusian Railway, as well as a prototype air-conditioned vehicle.As part of an upgrade of production processes at its Pitesti factory, Romanian firm Metabet has licensed British firm Railway Moulds & Systems Ltd’s concrete sleeper manufacturing technology. The plant will supply Romanian infrastructure manager CFR-SA with sleepers for use with Pandrol rail fastenings. Morris Material Handling has been awarded a three-year extension to an existing contract covering the inspection and preventative maintenance of the 55 cranes at Bombardier’s Derby rolling stock assembly and maintenance plant in the UK.Montr?al-based wooden sleeper and utility pole maker Stella-Jones reported sales of C$224m in 2006, up 43% on the previous year. Profits were up 81% to C$20?8m, and at the annual general meeting last month CEO Brian McManus predicted sales of up to C$290m for the current year.
