Faiveley Transport has begun exclusive negotiations to acquire the sintered brake pad business of Carbone Lorraine. A plant at Gennevilliers near Paris employs 80 staff and reported 2006 sales of €17·1m.
Vossloh and Nanjing Iron Steel Co formally opened a rail fastening factory at Kunshan outside Shanghai in a ceremony on November 16. The German firm has an 80% stake in the venture, which has 100 staff.
SIF Oltenia sold its 16·5% stake in Romanian wheelset and bogie manufacturer SMR Bals to International Railway Systems in November. IRS paid €5·6m, valuing the company at €34m. SIF Oltenia took the decision to sell because of a need for significant investment at SMR Bals, which could best be provided by a strategic investor. More than 75% of the shares in SMR Bals are held by MR Industrial Investment.
INTERNATIONAL: ProMedia Group has acquired DVV Media International’s UK-based portfolio of rail, aviation, logistics and human resources publications and events, including the Railway Gazette Group.
UK: The rail sector has responded to the budget statement delivered by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, which the Railway Industry Association said ’contained limited new measures affecting the railway industry and rail businesses’.
