• Faiveley Transport has begun exclusive negotiations to acquire the sintered brake pad business of Carbone Lorraine. A plant at Gennevilliers near Paris employs 80 staff and reported 2006 sales of €17·1m.
  • Vossloh and Nanjing Iron Steel Co formally opened a rail fastening factory at Kunshan outside Shanghai in a ceremony on November 16. The German firm has an 80% stake in the venture, which has 100 staff.
  • SIF Oltenia sold its 16·5% stake in Romanian wheelset and bogie manufacturer SMR Bals to International Railway Systems in November. IRS paid €5·6m, valuing the company at €34m. SIF Oltenia took the decision to sell because of a need for significant investment at SMR Bals, which could best be provided by a strategic investor. More than 75% of the shares in SMR Bals are held by MR Industrial Investment.
