CZECH REPUBLIC: Slovak firm ZOS Trnava has completed the first of 40 Type Bee second class and Type Apee first class coaches which are being modernised for Czech Railways under a KC1·2bn contract. All 40 are scheduled to be delivered by November.

Intended for use on fast inter-regional services running at up to 200 km/h, the cars are being rebuilt into five Aee and eight Apee first class cars, plus 20 Bee and seven Bpee second class vehicles. CD will lease the cars for 10 years, after which they will be sold to the operator.

They have a completely revamped interior including new flooring and upholstered seats by Borcad, tinted windows, plug doors and vacuum toilets. All areas are air-conditioned and individual 230 V power sockets are provided. Some work has been subcontracted to MOVO Plzen of the Czech Republic.

After modernisation by ZOS Trnava the coaches are emerging in a new livery, replacing the previously ubiquitous green colour scheme.
