SOUTH Korea’s two conventional main lines from Seoul to Pusan and Taejon to Mokpo are to be equipped with ETCS Level 1 automatic train protection and cab signalling by the end of 2006, under a contract announced on March 9.

Korail has selected a consortium led by Taejung Electric Construction Co to equip the two routes. The consortium has in turn awarded a 44·6m won contract to Bombardier Transportation for the ERTMS equipment, which the company is marketing as ’Interflo 250’.

Bombardier’s Rail Control Solutions division will supply EBICab 2000 on-board equipment for 414 loco and multiple-unit cabs plus EBILink lineside electronic units and Eurobalises to equip 760route-km.
