SLOVENIA: Siemens' rolling stock plant in Maribor is to close by the end of September, the government said on January 20.

Siemens had been negotiating to sell the plant to Heung Il, but the Korean firm pulled out because of the global financial crisis. Subsequent discussions for a sale to national railway SZ have also failed.

Talks were continuing in a bid to retain Slovenian expertise in train building and at least some of the 322 employees of the former TVT Nova plant, which Siemens bought in 2001 after acquiring a 33% stake two years previously.
