ALCATEL and Ansaldo Trasporti Sistemi Ferroviari have successfully completed trials of real-time remote video surveillance on one of København’s driverless light metro trains.

The train has been fitted with CCTV cameras and a digital video recorder for the field tests. These are linked to an on-board radio and antennae, which use a high bit-rate wi-fi link to wayside equipment located in tunnels between Kongens Nytorv and Christianshavn stations. From here the video data is sent to the control centre using the metro’s optic fibre data network, providing staff with a continuous stream of high quality images as the train travels at 80 km/h.
