France: On June 1 RATP began non-stop services on RER Line B between Paris Nord and Aéroport Charles-de-Gaulle, running every 15min outside peak hours.

Germany: Adtranz has unveiled a family of modular low-floor trams between 19 and 45m long developed at a cost of DM10m. ’CityCat’ will compete against Siemens’ Combino and GEC Alsthom’s Citadis.

Karlsruhe City Transport has ordered a further 10 low-floor light rail cars from Adtranz and Duewag at a cost of DM43m.

Siemens is to build a peoplemover linking Düsseldorf airport with a new DB Intercity station under a contract worth DM160m.

Great Britain: A public enquiry into the proposed 10 km extension of the Manchester Metrolink light rail network to Ashton-under-Lyne began on June 10.

Erection of overhead wires on Midland Metro Line 1 from Birmingham to Wolverhampton began on June 16. The first LRV is expected to arrive from Ansaldo on November 3.

Italy: Leitner of Bolzano is to supply a 3·6 km cable-operated peoplemover linking Assisi station with the city’s main tourist area. A fleet of 26 vehicles will run at 60sec headways; cost including civil works will be 74bn lire.

Bologna has launched plans for a 37 km four-line light rail network costing 395bn lire, to be funded by the city, local bus operator ATC and the state. The 19 km Line 1 would link FS suburban stations to the north and east via the city centre, and need 29 LRVs.

Norway: On May 31 AS Oslo Sporveier exercised an option for 13 additional T69O light rail cars from Ansaldo and Firema.

Portugal: CSEE Transport of France has won a FFr125m signalling contract for Lines B, C and D of Lisboa Metro; CTC and ATC/ATO will be installed.

Singapore: Land Transport Authority has awarded Hock Lian Seng Engineering Pte and Sato Kogyo Co of Japan a S$166m contract for 1·6 km of the Northeast metro line.

USA: Denver Regional Transportation District has ordered 14 additional SD-100 LRVs from Siemens Transportation Systems to work the 14 km Southwest Corridor extension due for completion in July 2000.
