SWIFTPASS has launched a handheld scanner which reads barcodes displayed on mobile phone screens as well as paper tickets.

The 'tickets' do not need to be accurately aligned, and the display is readable in low light. Wi-fi links allow for real-time validation, and immediate feedback of information to operators.

CEO Oliver Seal said mobile tickets offer additional security, with usage tracking and alerts when fraud is suspected. Built-in validity control and encryption helps stop duplication or re-use, while accommodating single use, multiple use or time-limited ticketing schemes. Itemised billing is possible, and two-way communications permit replacement of lost tickets.
