SINGAPORE’s Land Transport Authority has called tenders for design, supply and installation of trackwork on the planned 20 km North East line and the 6·4 km Changi Airport branch off the existing MRT East line. The NEL package also includes trackwork for the Sengkang depot, which will accommodate a fleet of 50 five-car trains on a 27 ha site at the outer end of the underground line. Bids for both routes are due at the end of June.

This month sees the deadline for prequalification submissions to design and build LTA’s planned light rail line or automated peoplemover serving Sengkang and Punggol. This will connect new housing developments along the northeast coast of Singapore Island with the outer end of the North East metro line. Final tenders for a turnkey contract covering design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance will be invited later in the year. o
