EUROPE: Russian Railways' construction subsidiary RZDstroy and Austrian civil engineering group Alpine Bau signed an agreement in Wien on January 29 establishing an equally owned joint venture to undertake railway construction work in Russia, Austria and elsewhere in Europe.

According to RZD, the joint venture's first projects will be related to the Brenner base tunnel project in Austria and the construction of two tunnels in Sochi as part of preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

  • Alpine has brought all its rail activities together at a single site with the opening of a headquarters building at Traun in Oberösterreich.
