DB Schenker Rail reports that the first intake of its EuroTrail international training programme comes to the end of its 18-month course this month. The first intake comprised 23 recruits from seven countries; the class of 2012 is 42 trainees from 12 countries. A further group is due to begin in November.

The Australasian Railway Association has launched a Competency Management System for railway staff and an accompanying smart card to store relevant data about registered contractors; the card can be scanned by smartphone or tablet PC.
