Philadelphia’s Port Authority Transit Corp has awarded a US$3·8m contract to building services group TAC to install an integrated IP-based video monitoring and emergency communications system on the 22·5 km Patco metro line between Philadelphia and Lindenwold, NJ, under a programme funded by the Department of Homeland Security.

Optelecom-NKF has been selected by Vinci subsidiary Roiret Transport to provide video surveillance systems for the 18 km light rail network in Le Mans. The IP-based Siqura system will be fully integrated with Roiret’s existing Scada control network to enhance the light rail line’s security infrastructure.

Italian supplier EuroTech has introduced its DuraCor DVR video surveillance technology for on-board security applications. Thanks to its low power requirement and compact dimensions, the hardware is designed to be fitted easily into rail and metro vehicles. DVR uses an advanced video-processing engine to perform real-time analysis on both analogue and digital data streams, and has the ability to acquire and store data from up to 16 channels on an integrated fixed or removeable storage unit. Compressed data can also be transmitted by wired or wireless interfaces for off-train analysis.
