CSX Transportation has established rail security partnerships providing state officials in Kentucky, New Jersey and New York with access to its Network Operations Workstation system.

This gives emergency response authorities the ability to independently track CSX's trains and the contents of each wagon in close to real time. CSX Transportation now hopes to expand the secure online system to additional US states.

'This new partnership is a model for how information sharing should occur between industry and government', said Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher. 'Every major homeland security report issued since 9/11 has emphasised the need for information sharing to occur at all levels of government and with the private sector. This initiative addresses the rail industry.'
