SMART Card Alliance has established a Transportation Council to promote the use of standards-based smart card payment in the transport industry.
It is one of several councils being established by the association to focus on use of smart cards in particular industries. The Alliance will work with the American Public Transportation Association to support the use of smart card fare collection, and will explore integration with road tolls, car parking, financial and other applications.
Membership of the council is open to vendors and operators which join the Smart Card Alliance. The steering committee, co-chaired by Mike Dinning and Greg Garback, includes representatives from operators, systems integrators, consultancies, financial service providers and equipment suppliers, including APTA, BART, Cubic, ERG Group and Booz Allen Hamilton.
