EXHIBITORS from 17 different countries will be attending the Expo Ferroviaria event in Torino on May 25-27, where they will present the latest developments in railway technology.

The theme of the exhibition is the future of rail transport, covering the whole railway sector from high speed lines to metro and tram technologies. Participants in the exhibition will include network operators, infrastructure, equipment and service providers, vehicle builders and component manufacturers.

Across Europe the liberalisation of the railway market has brought new suppliers into the sector, and the development of metro and urban tram systems in cities including Torino, Milano, Brescia, Genova, Firenze, Napoli and Roma has encouraged further new entrants. Companies from across Europe and beyond will be exhibiting, and 120 Italian companies will be prominent at the show.

Major producers of rail vehicles attending include Alstom, Bombardier and Siemens, and the infrastructure sector has attracted Balfour Beatty, Corus, VAE and Edilon. Equipment suppliers will include Matisa and Plasser Italiana, and the signalling sector will feature Consorzio Saturno, comprising ABB Dacom, Alstom Ferroviaria, AnsaldoBreda and Sirti.

Federal Mogul Operations Italy will be exhibiting its braking technology, and other suppliers showing their latest innovations will be Frenoplast, Frensistemi, Poli and SAB Wabco. Suppliers of suspension components include INA Italia, Phoenix Traffic Technology and SKF Österreich. Giumma will be showcasing its work in the railway sector, including the supply of toilet modules and composite interior panels.

Companies displaying onboard electrical equipment will include Deuta-Werke, Mors Smitt Relais and Sécheron, and a range of cables and connectors will be shown by Weidmüller. Tyco Electronics will be promoting its range of electrical components for signalling, station and on-train applications.

Exhibitors from the vehicle maintenance sector are Cespa, Corade and Emanuel from Italy, with German participants including Hegenscheidt-MFD and Klein Anlagenbau.

A tour of the construction works for the 9·6 km Line 1 of the Torino light metro heads the list of technical visits being organised in conjunction with Gruppo Torinese Trasporti, and delegates will also have the opportunity to see the workshops of the local tram network.

Local trade bodies are organising a programme of ’Meet the Buyer and Supplier’ events, which will provide a networking opportunity for companies hoping to enter the Italian market, or local businesses looking to expand their horizons.

Expo Ferroviaria is being held at the Lingotto Fiere exhibition centre, a former industrial building served by frequent tram and bus services from the city centre. Organised by Mack Brooks Exhibitions, the event is being backed by the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport, Regione Piemonte and local transport operator Gruppo Torinese Trasporti.

CAPTION: The programme of technical visits includes a tour of construction works for the Torino automated light metro. Tunnels 9·6 km long will link Collegno with Porta Nuova in the first phase of Line 1
