Developed for track renewal work on London Underground’s Waterloo & City line, the Bance Rail Transportation Unit comprises four lifting traversers with an Alumi-Cart inspection trolley at each end. Able to carry four people, the Alumi-Carts can be uncoupled from the RTU for inspection duties at speeds up to 30 km/h or used for transporting materials or equipment in 2 tonne trailers.
Both the Alumi-Carts and the traversers which form the RTU are electrically powered for quiet and emission-free operation. During trials, the RTU was able to lift and carry two 18m sections of 113A rail.
