Kiepe Electric, IFTEC and Siemens have completed a project to modernise 14 three-section GT6N trams for Nürnberg operator VAG, which carried out refurbishment of the bogies, motors and brakes itself. Work is now underway on 26 four-section trams as part of a €24m life-extension project.

In February CRRC Nanjin Puzhen was named as lowest bidder for the contract, but Indian industry sources expressed concern about Chinese state support for CRRC and predatory pricing.

Voith is to supply traction and control systems for 18 trams which Würzburg transport authority WVV has ordered from HeiterBlick for entry into service from 2022. The supplier said tight curves in the old town and steep gradients in the surrounding districts required vehicles custom-designed to meet local requirements.

As part of its plan to support the easing of coronavirus restrictions, BART has introduced weekly train car loading charts outlining the average number of riders using each vehicle of each train. The estimates are calculated from fare gate information and that assume passengers are evenly spread through all coaches, but BART warned that in reality the middle of trains would be busier.
