Liebherr-Transportation Systems (China) is to supply ultra-lightweight MACS 10.0 air-conditioning systems for Chengdu Xinzhu Road & Bridge Machinery Co’s urban maglev project.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corp has appointed a joint venture of Systra, EGIS Rail and AECOM Asia to undertake design reviews, support procurement and supervise construction and commissioning of Surat Metro Phase 1. The 42-month project is funded by French development agency AFD and German development bank KfW.

Following staff trials, 1 000 volunteer Moscow metro passengers began testing Face Pay facial recognition payment on metro Line 4 on July 31. Biometric data is linked to a bank card, with cameras at the gates taking around 1·5 sec to identify the passenger.

Parramatta Light Rail - Lennox Bridge

The Parramatta light rail project in Sydney has achieved the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia’s highest rating for sustainable design. ‘Grassed tracks will be installed along 10% of the alignment, which requires 81% less concrete than standard embedded trackform’, said Transport for NSW Executive Director Anand Thomas. ‘The project will achieve a 36% reduction in carbon emissions through construction and operations, simply by designing areas with a wire-free system, using supplementary and recycled materials in concrete and asphalt, and re-using existing rail, sleepers and ballast.’

Zürich operator VBZ has commissioned PSI Transcom to deploy its PSItraffic depot management system to monitor and control 260 trams and 240 buses at eight depots. The DMS will establish an end-to-end digital workflow from the time vehicles enter the depots, through supply and repair up to parking.

Singapore is to phase out the sale of standard single and return tickets from between January and March 2022. Land Transport Authority said the vast majority of passengers now use stored value or account-based ticketing options, with fewer than one in 1 000 trips paid for using standard tickets. LTA has reduced the minimum cash top-up amount for stored valued cards from S$10 to S$2 to support passengers who have limited cash.

Titagarh Firema’s factory at Caserta in Italy held a roll-out ceremony for the first of the trainsets it building for the Pune Metro on July 30; the majority of the trainsets will be manufactured by Titagarh Wagons in India, and the plant at Uttarpara in India has also produced a mock-up for the future operator.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has appointed InfraTrans Consultants, PricewaterhouseCoopers FAS, TransConsult, Planpro and Daoreuk Communications to advise on a PPP project to develop the planned north-south Grey Line monorail.
