Preliminary works have begun for construction of the northeastern section of the Luxembourg tram network from Luxexpo to the airport. The 3·9 km extension will include a viaduct spanning the A1 motorway. Opening is anticipated for 2024.
Société du Grand Paris has awarded Vinci Construction’s Chantiers Modernes Construction an €82m contract to build the depot for the future Grand Paris Express Line 18. The contract requires 20% of the total value to be awarded to SMEs, and 10% of the hours worked will be set aside for people on social integration programmes. The 64 000 m2 facility in Palaiseau will include an infrastructure maintenance base, a rolling stock depot, the control room and technical facilities.
Stadler has extended Houghton International’s contract to support the maintenance of the Tyne & Wear Metro trainsets, increasing contracted volumes to extend the life of the current vehicles until the transition to a new fleet from 2023.
The Brussels Capital and Vlaanderen regions have agreed to build the long-planned 6 km extension of the capital’s tram Route 62 from Eurocontrol to Brussels National Airport. Vlaanderen will be responsible for financing and construction, but services would be provided by Brussels operator STIB as an integral part of its network.
