The first Hyundai-Rotem Warsolino tram to enter regular revenue service has begun carrying passengers on Warszawa‘s Route 17. Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski participated in the inaugural trip on December 14.

A 2·5 km single-track tramway loop in Piraeus with 11 stops was opened for revenue service on December 14, after eight years of construction and commissioning. Tram routes have been reconfigured, with T6 now running from Syntagma in the city centre to Pikrodaphni and T7 from Asklipieio Voulas to Piraeus. In addition, 25 Alstom Citadis X05 trams ordered in July 2018 have entered service.

São Paulo metro Line 4 has been extended south by 1·5 km from São Paulo-Morumbi to Vila Sônia. At present the new terminus is only being served at peak times, but full operations are expected to start in May 2022.

Nuernberg VAG Siemens Mobility Avenio tram on test

Nürnberg operator VAG has exercised an option for Siemens Mobility to supply a further 14 Avenio trams as an option on a 2019 order for 12; the first of the initial batch is now at the Wildenrath test centre, with entry into passenger service planned for summer 2022.

A 3·8 km orbital tram line in Oradea was opened on December 15, linking Calea Aradului and Lotus via the university. Served by a diversion of routes 5 and 7, the new alignment includes 2·3 km of grassed reservation. It has cost €11·6m to build, of which 98% was financed from EU sources.

Three and EE are the first telecoms companies to sign up to use the 4G and 5G-ready neutral host mobile communications infrastructure which BAI Communications is to roll out across the London Underground network by the end of 2024.

An intermediate station at Namwirye on the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 8 was opened on December 18; it is located between Bokjeong and Sanseong in the southeastern suburbs of the South Korean capital.
