Cape Town Northern Line service resumed

Metrorail Western Cape restarted a limited suburban service on the Bellville – Eerste River section of Cape Town’s Northern Line on January 16. Operations were suspended when the coronavirus lockdown started in March 2020, and as with several other routes across South Africa the infrastructure had been heavily damaged.

A cost:benefit analysis is to be commissioned for a proposed 8 km extension of U-Bahn Line U7 to Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey has announced. Preliminary estimates put the cost at €811m to €890m, and the city hopes to secure a federal contribution of 90% rather than the usual 75% because of the national importance of the project.
