Medellín Metro has awarded manufacturer CAF a further contract for the long-cycle maintenance of 38 three-car trainsets supplied since 2009. This includes a general overhaul of 25 trainsets and an intermediate overhaul of 13.

Sound Transit has received a Record of Decision from the Federal Transit Administration for the 6·6 km West Seattle Link Extension project, enabling it to advance to the design phase. The route and station locations were selected in October 2024, and Sound Transit is continuing work on ‘financial, programmatic and project-level measures to improve affordability’.

Hungary’s Ministry of Construction & Transport has called tenders for a 2·8 km seven-stop tramway extension in Budapest, branching off the existing network at Szent Gellért tér and running along the Buda side of the River Danube to Budafoki út/Dombóvári út on tram Route 1.

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive in Council has officially authorised the Northern Link Main Line Railway Scheme under the Railways Ordinance. The 10·7 km underground line will connect Kam Sheung Road on the Tuen Ma Line with Kwu Tung on East Rail. MTR Corp has already commenced advance works, and the target for completion is 2034.

A joint venture of GHD and AECOM has been appointed as Infrastructure Technical Advisor for the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 Main Works project in Sydney. This includes reviewing and updating the current definition design for the 10 km 14-stop extension, preparing a reference design and supporting Transport for New South Wales. GHD prepared the Environmental Impact Statement and is currently involved in the detailed design for the enabling works.

Hitachi Rail has awarded Knorr-Bremse a ‘lower to mid double-digit million-euro’ framework agreement to supply pneumatic braking, coupling and door systems for trainsets it is to build for the Roma metro. There is a base order for 14 trainsets and an option for 16 more. The trains will be fitted with FlexControl Modular brake control units, AutoLink automatic front couplers and two types of semi-permanent couplers from Knorr-Bremse’s ShortLink family.

Platform details are now included in the San Francisco Bay area’s BART Trip Planner. ‘BART is making changes to ensure navigating transit is as easy as possible as part of our efforts to improve the customer experience and increase ridership’, said Chief Communications Officer Alicia Trost. ‘New riders and those who use BART infrequently will now have this critical platform information that will make their journey more seamless.’
