Windhoff Bahn & Anlagentechnik has handed over two MPV VentuS-NV SF50 rail grinding vehicles ordered by Frankfurt am Main urban transport operator VGF. In addition to the grinding module, they are equipped with a contact wire de-icing system enabling year-round weather-independent operation. The MPVs can be flexibly combined with other vehicles to create individually configurable multi-purpose trains to meet specific requirements.

A consortium of Webuild and Vianini Lavori has won a €2bn contract to build the 4 km four-station section T2 of Roma metro Line C from Venezia to Clodio/Mazzini. This will pass 25 m under the River Tiber and through an area of exceptional archaeological importance, which will be reflected in the design of Chiesa Nuova and San Pietro stations.

Syndicate leader KfW IPEX-Bank and account bank NORD/LB are making €122m available to Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr to finance 34 Škoda ForCity Smart 36T trams for use in Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg. The order has been placed as an option on a 2018 contract for for 80 trams which KfW IPEX-Bank and NORD/LB also financed. ‘The procurement is the largest investment in the history of our company and will form the backbone of our fleet for decades to come’, said RNV Commercial Director Christian Volz. ‘Realising projects of this magnitude requires reliable and strong support in terms of financing. With KfW IPEX-Bank and NORD/LB, we have exactly the right partners onboard.’

The executive leadership of the canton of Zürich has requested SFr303m from the cantonal council to finance an extension of the Glattalbahn to the Steinacker area of Kloten. A federal contribution is expected to cover up to 40% of the project costs, and co-financing is expected from the Kloten municipality and third parties.

Proposals have been announced for an additional tram route to be included in the Jerusalem transport master plan. The Brown Line would serve east Jerusalem, linking the Atarot industrial zone in the north with Sur Baher in the south, sharing sections of the Red Line.

Boldyn Networks has extended 4G and 5G mobile coverage on London Underground’s Northern Line from Euston to Bank and Balham to South Wimbledon. Coverage is being rolled out between Vauxhall and Pimlico on the Victoria Line.

Ramboll has been selected to design an 8 km eight-stop extension of the Tampere tramway from Hiedanranta via Lielahti to Ylöjärvi. This planning work to be undertaken in 2025-27 will enable the local authorities to make a decision on whether to go ahead with construction.

Chelyabinsk has called tenders for the supply of five low-floor bidirectional LRVs for the first of three fast tram lines which are to open by 2027. Local media reports that 32 trams are expected to be produced for the lines by UKVZ.

Patina Brewing launched a limited-edition Platform Pilsner craft beer as part of Vancouver transport agency TransLink’s efforts to promote public transport and generate revenue. The can design is inspired by the West Coast Express livery, and TransLink will receive a portion of every sale. ‘TransLink is thinking outside the box – or in this case, outside of the fare gate – to generate additional revenue and support a local business’, said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn.
