Edited by Roger Harris and Tom Short

Drawing on a series of research projects undertaken by Australia’s CRC for Rail Innovation between 2007 and 2014, this book looks at how the concept of workforce development helps organisations to move beyond human resource management ‘to create a more balanced philosophy for integrating work into a sustainable society’.

Based at the University of South Australia, the editors led the CRC’s Workforce Development theme, which accounts for 17 of the 20 chapters. The studies explore a range of issues confronting organisations following the global financial crisis, to make the case that workforce development is ‘an amalgam of activities influenced by context, politics and economic development’.
