EUROPE: The heads of the German and Polish national railways met in Warszawa on September 8 to discuss improvements to cross-border co-operation, including plans for high speed services from Berlin to Poznan.

The meeting was hosted by DB Chief Executive Rüdiger Grube and his PKP counterpart Andrzej Wach. Agreement was reached to establish a working group to consider options for a high speed passenger service between Berlin and Poznan. They also discussed security during the 2012 UEFA Championship and the sharing of work to upgrade Polish stations.

On the freight side they discussed the impact of restructuring on the Polish market, and the need to improve co-operation, particularly in the wagonload sector.
