GERMANY: DB announced a 10-year framework agreement for the supply of up to 450 electric locomotives from Bombardier Transportation on May 2. Finalisation of the deal, which is potentially worth up to €1·5bn, is subject to a regulatory standstill period.

An initial firm order is to be placed for 110 locomotives for use by DB Schenker Rail and 20 for DB Regio.

The framework would enable DB to place firm orders for Traxx modular locomotives with various specifications and on-board equipment, including 'last mile' diesel engines. The basic top speed will be 160 km/h, with an option for 189 km/h.

Bombardier has sold around 1 600 Traxx locomotives to 17 European countries, including more than 700 to DB.
